Norton Honored as PMI® Volunteer of the Year

Steve Norton (middle) was honored as the PMI Chapter Volunteer of the Year at the PMI* Global Congress 2013.

Steve Norton was named PMI Chapter Volunteer of the Year at the PMI® Global Congress 2013 – North America, which was held in October in New Orleans.

Norton earned the recognition for his work with his local Columbia River Basin PMI Chapter in Richland, Washington. During his time serving on the chapter’s Board of Education over four years, he helped create a long-term and lasting relationship between the PMI chapter and Columbia Basin College, the local community college. Together, the chapter and the college are helping to educate and train project managers.

A significant outcome of the relationship is funding of a perpetual college scholarship established through the PMI Educational Foundation. Norton also helped develop a non-dues revenue-generation model within the chapter. The partnering arrangement is gaining widespread attention because it enables chapters to provide member and community benefits in professional project management education and training.
